Chapter11-

As the day became night once more and a full moon rose in the black sky, a silver dagger gleamed in the street light.

Tom walked to the front door and let himself in. He’d never been privileged enough to have his own set of keys to a girls places before, then again he’d never really hung around with a vampire before either. He walked into the lifeless house and silently searched for Sita. He was keen to impress after his latest mission. He found her in the study sitting on the floor beside the fire, the flames dancing in her eyes like fire on the water. They seemed to be bluer than ever.  And he couldn’t help but stare.

“So…what’s this for then? You don’t seem like an antique collecting type”

Tom pulled the dagger from his inside coat pocket and held it up, pointing it toward Sita. It was solid silver, a little over 17 inches long. The hilt was set with amethysts and the length of the blade was carved with an unreadable language.

“Ha, I am an antique” she laughed, forcing a smile. “It’s for a friend of mine”

“A friend? Is there a secret lover you’re not telling me about? Really Sita, I’m hurt. I can’t believe your cheating on me” Tom chuckled while throwing himself on the floor opposite her.

“It’s a gift” she whispered staring through the window into the starless night.

“So who is this friend? Someone else like you?”

“No, not like me.” All the joy drained from her voice “It doesn’t matter any way. Thank you for getting that for me. It really means a lot to me that you’re here. I’ve been alone for a long time and I’d almost forgotten what it was like to be around another person, and I’m sorry”

Tom looked bemused.

“Why are you sorry? You haven’t done anything”

“I’m sorry for always pushing you away. I’m sorry for every time I’ve lied to you. I’m sorry for being so cold”

I’I'm sorry for so many things

Tom felt something warm against his hand. He looked down to find Sita holding it firmly yet gently. A weak smile looked back at him as she pulled herself closer. He could feel her breath on his cheek as she moved closer still. As he sat there she moved on top of him. Her legs either side of his and her hands touching his cheeks. Her hands slowly moved down his body until they were wrapped around him.

He was paralysed by her touch. His mind exploded into a thousand pieces. Words escaped him as she held him tighter.

She laid him back softly until he was lying on the floor. The fire now danced all over her skin, he hair seemed to be ablaze of white flame. A dark angel floating above him. His heart pounded in his ears as she bent down and kisses his cheek as a mother would to a newborn child. She pulled back and stared into his eyes and in them she saw herself, what she could be, what she should have been. After a silence that seemed like an eternity her lips met his. She was like a sweet elixir; a feeling beyond words swept over him and overwhelmed his whole body. He was lot in the sea that was her eyes.

“I’m sorry Tom, you do understand that don’t you?”

He still could not speak. He nodded as best he could, still lost in the sea.

He noticed a change in her once blue eyes. Suddenly they seemed so old, almost dull. He tried to sit up to hold her tightly as she had him but he couldn’t move. Her hands were on his chest pinning him to the floor.

“I’ve told you already that I have to leave and that you can’t come with me. There are things you shouldn’t have to see.”

“But…”

Her hand grasped his mouth, her nails digging in to his cheeks.

“No, you can not speak. I’m tired of this. I’m tired of everything. You have no idea about the horrors I’ve seen, the horrors I’ve caused. I’m not fit to be here among those who grow old and live a natural life. I’m going somewhere you can’t follow me. It has to end now; it should have ended so long ago.”

His body squired at her touch but her hand still held firmly to his mouth as the sweat rolled down his face. Fear bubbled inside of him and she could see it so clearly in his eyes. He was afraid of her and it stung like a dagger through her heart.

Her free hand touched his hair as gently as it did a few moments ago.

“Please don’t be afraid of me, not you to.”

The sadness was clear in her eyes as she pulled herself close to him again. Their noses almost touched as she whispered sweetly to him.

“Sleep now, and in the morning all the monsters will be gone.”

Darkness surrounded him and he feel through it, he was swallowed whole by the shadows and drifted away through them. Lost in the storm. A distant voice still echoed in the dark

“You can sleep now my child”
